Why We Do What We Do

Because after years of living in a corporate world with little passion, even less emotion and constant pushing, we came to realize that sometimes it IS the emotion and passion that is the key to driving toward success.

We help you harness that emotion and passion in the right environment to build credibility, increase trust, increase job satisfaction and grow your bottom line.

Why It Matters

Because passion drives growth, both personally and professionally. Harnessing passion, emotion and vulnerability in the right environment and with the right focus empowers greatness.

They will make you a stronger leader, your strategy stick and your bottom line grow.

Because your company’s success is important to you and we want to see you be successful.

Why Extend?

Because we’ve been through the ropes.  We’ve led organizations. We’ve been entrepreneurs. We’ve learned from our failures.

We bring years of experience of negotiating the politics of the board room to you and your team.  We understand all too well the stress of sitting at the table and how that manifests itself throughout the day. And we're all certified. Working with us increases communications, team dynamics and overall commitment.

Working with us improves team dynamics, increases communication effectiveness and drives overall commitment.

Our Coaching & Consulting Services

Individual Coaching

Performance = Potential + Development – Interference

At Extend, individual coaching is a confidential partnership-based relationship between one of our coaches and you. We work through a thought-provoking process that inspires you to maximize personal and professional potential by focusing on the interference. Tapping into the underlying emotions increases self-awareness and self-confidence, making you a stronger partner, leader and colleague.

Peer Groups

Honesty + Partnership – Ego = Growth

Extend’s Peer Leadership Groups harness the power of up to 10 smart, non-competing leaders to help you grow your company.  We offer a completely confidential, inclusive environment for you to have an honest conversation about what you need to grow your business. Being a part of the group is a commitment to both your company and yourself. Groups are made up of CEOs, business owners and entrepreneurs who value the input of others when making decisions and are looking for growth even after proven successes.

Groups meet in the Baltimore area, monthly, for up to 4 hours.  Please contact Becca to find out more.

Strategic and Operational Consulting

Often an outside perspective can shed light on something that was too difficult to see internally.  By listening closely, and going through our “Passion Process”, Extend helps you identify the passion that leads your business.  The outcome is a clear, tangible strategy that has buy-in from all levels of your organization.

Off-Site Strategy Planning Session

Off-site strategy sessions offer organizational teams the opportunity to step away from the day to day operations to focus on the overall growth of the business. After working with leadership to fully understand the strategic focus of your organization, Extend will co-create an agenda that will build engagement and drive participation during the session. Then, to ensure what is discussed during the meeting is brought back int operations, Extend will design an engagement strategy to bring that energy and passion back into day-to-day operations. (length TBD by needs)

Note: The DISC assessment is very thorough, and is best supported following the group session with 1-2 coaching sessions to debrief on the person’s individual assessment.  This empowers your employees to review the assessment in more detail, understand what resonates for them, review how they are perceived in groups, and discuss in private how they feel about the assessment.  This often leads to discussions about the group itself and how they, individually, contribute to that group.

DISC/Motivators Assessments

Assessments offer a non-biased, measured way of learning more about oneself and others. DISC and Motivators, offered by Extend increase self-awareness, provide tools to be successful in difficult situations and increase communication skills. When used in organizations, they offer an easy way to identify behaviors without focusing on an individual. When taken as a team, they open up communication between and among team members.

DISC is a behavior profiling too that focuses on individual patterns of external, observable behaviors. It measures the energy an individual puts into dominating problems, influencing people, steadying the environment and complying to rules. It is the most commonly used assessment in the market today and can easily be used in both a group and an individual setting. Utilizing DISC has proven to help increase individual commitment and group cooperation; help resolve existing conflict and prevent future conflict; and build a common language across the organization.

Motivators measures the Seven Universal Dimensions of Motivation that drive each of us: Aesthetic, Economic, Individualistic, Political, Altruistic, Regulatory and Theoretical. Whereas DISC predicts how a person will behave, Motivators explains why. Used in conjunction with DISC, users have a much clearer understanding of who they are and why they operate the way they do.

Extend is a certified DISC and Motivators consultant. We often use these assessments in our long-term coaching engagements. When used as part of the off-site, we recommend supporting it with 1 to 2 individual coaching sessions for each person taking the assessment/s to allow time to embrace the data.

Becca Pearce, MBA

I’ve been a strong-willed, no-nonsense kind of leader within the insurance market the majority of my career. I spent several years at CareFirst, BlueCross BlueShield and Kaiser Permanente before being chosen to run Maryland’s Health Benefit Exchange during the O’Malley administration in 2011. After that, I went on to work at University of Maryland Medical System Health Plans (UMMSHP) as a vice president. I understand insurance, I love defining and implementing strategy, and I excel at working with other leaders.

Then why the change, you ask?  Two reasons.

I often refer to myself as a “recovering lawyer”. After a short stint in private practice, I ran off and joined the circus as Vice President of Legal Affairs for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey. During that time, I learned as much about business and management as I did about law. Ringling Bros. is a multi-faceted company with a broad array of issues that required nimble balancing and precise execution.

After leaving Ringling Bros., I switched to management consulting before eventually becoming CEO of United Healthcare of the Mid-Atlantic, a $300+ million division of United Health Group.

My background is different from most leadership coaches. I was an independent producer and writer of television documentaries and co-owner of a production company. I was passionate about the work and thrilled to receive a National Emmy Award in 2004 for a two-hour PBS special about the Senate Watergate Hearings. Earning an Emmy was a dream I had had since high school.

I come to the world of coaching from that of character study. Having grown up a perfectionist in preppy Baltimore with a degree from Princeton in English and Theater, I know what it is to be driven, and to wonder simultaneously if there is something more--something on a soul level. I searched actively for that as I worked as an actor for twelve years, discerning the why for each and every character.

How to Recover from an Ego Blow

In 2013, after giving my life-blood for over 2 years to a cause I deeply believed in, it was “suggested” that I resign for the sake of my family. No kidding. This was the exact comment. Being held responsible for something you did or didn’t do, failing at a big project, or losing a big sale can be just as debilitating if you let it.

Why Small Business Strategy Matters

Last year, after working for over 20 years in the corporate world, I decided to start my own business. I had a business plan. I had an idea of who might be interested in my services. Yet, I woke up one day to find myself completely stuck, unable to figure out why I was stuck or where I should go. Here’s why having a strategy is important, especially for small businesses.

Thank you soooo much. You are an amazing coach. I already put my actions into place and I feel so much better about where this will go with the business. I wish I had you as a coach when I first started! Who knows where my practice would be now.

Small business owner

I have worked with Becca for years. Her strong ability to think strategically and then translate that thinking into cohesive plans have always been spot on. As a coach, she is thoughtful, intuitive and caring. I plan to continue using her services in my current role and organization.
